Mission Ashra, Jharsuguda

People’s forum established Mission Ashra’s satellite centre at Jharsuguda in 2016. The centre is the first of its kind in Western Orissa, which has rehabilitation centres for both men and women with mental health concerns. It was started with concerted efforts of Mr Sanjay Jhethi and Mr
Sukanta Samal, under the guidance of member secretary of people’s forum, Mr Gobinda Chandra Pattanaik.

Western Orissa has a sizeable population of those who are homeless and suffers mental illnesses. The district administration of Jharsuguda paid attention to the problem and took initiative to provide a safe haven for the people who have been discarded and tortured by society. Since People’s Forum has been working in this concern for long with discrete reputation, we were invited to replicate the Mission Ashra rehabilitation centre model in Jharsuguda.

In the beginning, the female unit had 25 beds facility, which grew exponentially with time. Now the centre has 100 beds facility. Similarly, the male unit which started with 25 beds facility has now increased to 50 beds.
