Ques1. Does Mission Ashra works only for mentally ill destitute women?
Yes, Mission Ashra works with the mentally ill and destitute but our work is not restricted to the female population. We also work with destitute men who have mental illness. The men’s unit is located in Jharsuguda.
Ques2. Who is the founder of Mission Ashra?
At a time when very few organisations were working on mental health and destitution, the current Member Secretary of People’s Forum Mr. Govinda Chandra Pattanaik established Ashra in the year 2003.

The helpline number of Mission Ashra, Janla unit is 1800-3456-707. Other than this, one can also call at +91 8280336240/41 to know any kind of information or report a person with mental illness.
Ques4. What are the different methods for donations of funds to Mission Ashra?
Donation can be made through both Online and Offline methods. For online donation one can go to the ‘Donate Us’ button in the website and choose the preferred donation option. For offline donation, one can send us cheques. If the donor is in Orissa, then he/she can visit the centre in person to make any kind of donations. For further assistance one can call us on the helpline number mentioned in the website.
Ques5. How is follow up done for the recovered women after she is reunited with the family?
There are two ways in which the follow up is done for the women who are reunited. For women who have been reunited within the state, the team of Ashra sends two members to do quarterly follow up depending on the severity of the case. In cases where reunion have taken place outside the state, the follow up is carried through telephonic conversation and a home visit.
Ques6. How is Mission Ashra related to People’s Forum?
People’s Forum is the mother organisation in which Mission Ashra is one of the major flagship programs. The other flagship programs under People’s Forum are Aama Ghara, Sakhi, Ujjwala, Mid-Day Meal, Skill Development and Drug De-addiction. Mission Ashra of People’s Forum is the pioneer in treatment of Mental illness and destitution in the eastern region.
Ques7. Which are the funding agencies for the program?
Mission Ashra receives yearly grants from Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department, Government of Odisha, NALCO, Railkunj, SBI, Kanara Bank and Rotary Club.
Ques8. What challenges does the administration face to maintain and manage such a huge rehabilitation center?
Running a rehabilitation center effectively entails several challenges. Some of the challenges which we face at mission Ashra are over crowdedness, lack of fund and quality hygiene. Language barrier is another predominant challenge for the counselors in reference to the women who do not understand Hindi or Odia. The organisation is rigorously working to solve these issues completely in every possible way.
Ques9. What are the near goals of Mission Ashra?
In our attempt to do better, the organisation is planning to start a program where health service providers will train our staff in honing their skills. In addition to this we will soon build an OPD system for patients who would require clinical consultancy. We are also working towards school outreach program and building a foray into community.
